Natural colour
dye extracted from a plant typically has little impact on the environment. It is a renewable raw material and its cultivation contributes to biological diversity.
Our partner, ‘Couleurs de Plantes’ , based in Charente (south west France), cultivates plants with long, proven heritage. Very little pesticides are used and irrigation is tightly controlled.
Due to plant selection and the method of harvesting, it is possible to obtain impressive returns of up to 500kg of dye product per hectare.
The manufacturing and colouring processes are very eco-friendly, with water being extracted from recycled alcohol of agricultural origin. The recycled 75% solid residue is eco-friendly and disposed of in the field. The extracting factory is certified ISO 9000 and ISO 14001.
A process for the organic treatment of the effluents is being planned. Some of the tropical plants used are carefully selected from authorized, regulated harvesting or from dedicated plantations. Dyes are mixed in caustic, chosen for the resulting low level of toxicity produced.

Natural dyeing yes, but /
The traditional dyeing from plants, practiced for millennia were time consuming and energy intensive, with washings and repetitive rinses using large quantities of water. Although the result was often a beautiful dyed product, these were generally fragile and unable to cope with light and washing. In other words, it is expensive and inferior in several ways. Did you know that with a different dye and mordant, we may obtain ten different shades? Once treated, there are high levels of dyeing residues as well as caustic.
And if we are not watchful, we risk to reject it a lot. It is thus a question of taking into account each of these problems. We tested several processes and mix, we experimented new methods of dyeing, we persisted...
